Full lighting retrofit of a lactating cow barn

Junlebao Dairy Group, founded in 1995, reported 2.91 billion USD of revenue in 2024, with 33 farms, 20 production sites and a herd of 192,000 cows.

Banner Farm sits on the Bashang grassland at Zhangjiakou, at 41°N. It is a 4 billion CNY project, with a closed pipeline that moves milk from the parlor to the plant in 98 seconds.

The measured barn is 372 × 92 m. Runtime used for the electricity figures is 16 hours a day.

Fixture count went from 1,098 to 603, a 45% reduction. Connected load went from 87.84 kW to 36.18 kW, a 58.8% reduction.

Reported electricity cost moved from $26,404 a year to $10,875 a year, about $42.54 a day and $15,528 a year. Over eight years that is $211,229 against $87,002, a saving of $124,227.

Each new lamp is 60 W at 150 lm/W. The legacy tri-proof lamp is shown as 80 W at 130 lm/W.

Feeding alley: 78 lx to 233 lx, uniformity 0.30 to 0.83.

Lying and rest area: 36 lx to 167 lx, uniformity 0.50 to 0.74.

Auxiliary manure alley: 11 lx to 121 lx, uniformity 0.10 to 0.70.

Flicker index 31.2 to below 0.4. Color temperature 6500 K to 5000 K. CRI 69 to at least 80.

Of 1,320 units delivered, the system ran 26 months from October 2023 to December 2025 with 5 customer-reported defects (0.38%).

Teardown classed all five as external: one cracked cover from impact, and four drivers damaged by voltage surges on the customer side. Product-quality failures: zero.

Reported yield moved from 35 kg to 38 kg per cow per day, up 8.6% and 3 kg. Feed-to-milk ratio moved from 1.5 to 1.45.

Reported 8-year revenue increase is $376,000+. A separate 100-cow illustration is $46,970 a year. Those use different bases and are not added together.
